Summary: “Gulf Spill Super Heroes”
The text, “Gulf Spill Super Heroes”, is a fascinating expository text that discusses the Deep Water oil spill which occurred in April of 2010. The Gulf of Mexico oil spill was incredibly dangerous to the ocean, fishermen, and animals.  Volunteers, scientists, first responders, veterinarians, and many agencies needed to collaborate to help stop the spill and help clean up the community and environment.
Because the oil spill was becoming a dangerous hazard, people collaborated to find ways to fix and clean up the oil. Fishermen were losing money because the animals they needed were affected by the oil.  Engineers repaired the well, but still needed to clean up the mess.  Responders, including NASA, used the view from the sky to see where the oil was coming from. Volunteers dedicated their time to help the community and the animals that were affected by the oil spill.  Scientists used the SWORD to scoop up the large clumps of oil.
Workers, volunteers, scientists, veterinarians, and many agencies worked as hard as they could to help the animals, fishermen, the communities around the spill, and to get the oil out of the water and clean up the mess and environment.
